Patty & Chuck Winter Wedding Nashua Country Club, Nashua NH St Christopher Catholic Church, Nashua NH

Christmas weddings have a magical air to them, and Chuck and Patty’s stunning holiday wedding in New Hampshire was a classic.  Even though its was literally 2 degrees outside, they braved the snowflakes and kept each other warm with lots of hugs and kisses (and what you don’t see in the photos…very heavy coats and a warm limo standing by!  Haha).  I loved all the pretty details of their wedding, including Nashua Country Club itself, which I had never photographed before.  I felt like I was in the middle of a Robert Frost poem…over the river and through the woods (ok, that’s a song, not a poem…but that is what it felt like).  The Country Club had all the halls decked, but Patty & Chuck had their own special touches everywhere…and the deep red & black palette was romantic and heart warming at the same time.  We are using a white Japanese silk album with black ribbon for their amazing album…can’t wait!!

Should you be twiddling your thumbs this mid-October trying to decide when and where to get married, might I suggest late May at the Shelburne Museum?

Founded in 1947 by Electra Havemeyer Webb, who had not only a passion for American collectibles but the imagination to move 20 historic buildings to display them in, the Museum combines vintage buildings, manicured grounds, and fragrant plantings in a way that creates a wedding setting like no other.

Where else, for example, can you get married on a landed 220-foot steamboat?  The Ticonderoga is the popular place for receptions at the Museum and is fully equipped with three levels, two decks, vintage newspapers, a winding wood staircase with a full-length mirror, and charming (though off-limits) bedroom chambers.  Dining often takes place under the covered yet open deck, while the fully open and uncovered deck makes a great dance floor.

And for the little kids at the party?  Well, there is an old-time carousel minutes away from the Ticonderoga. And when the wine and champagne has begun to flow and those handful of unruly guests begin to reveal themselves?  Well, there is a small but secure-looking jail house across the grounds.

While anytime of year would be a beautiful time of year to get married at the Museum if you happen to be fond of (as I am) lily of the valley, apple blossoms, lilacs, and ducklings late May just might be your time!

Q & A with the bride:

1. Describe your wedding day decor and style.  We wanted our wedding day to be perfectly “Vermont“. We really succeeded! It was comfortable and had a very natural feel. I wanted to use oranges and greens because I  felt like they were such earthy colors and really cried out “Vermont“ to me. We wanted our wedding to express how much we love the outdoors and the mountains.

2. What was your favorite part of your wedding day? The dancing!! Kevin and I both love to dance – Especially to a great band! (Joey Leone was awesome!) This was certainly a very important part of the celebration to us and we had such a blast!

3. What is your most vivid memory of the day? I really loved when we got introduced as a couple at the beginning of the reception (even if our name was incorrect  Our first dance was really special and I think that will stand out forever.

4. What was the biggest surprise? I have to say the biggest surprise was the adorable figurines my parents made of us when we were children to put on the cake table. I loved how they put a little veil on

5. Did you include any family traditions? Kevin’s family has a tradition of singing “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” by Meatloaf during the reception. The guys stand on one side and sing the guy parts and the girls on the other singing the girl parts. The bride sits on a chair in the middle of the circle and the groom stands singing to her. Interesting tradition, I know. But, it was hilarious and made for some great pictures!

6. What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding? Enjoy every minute and don’t get too stressed! It doesn’t matter if little things go wrong because most people will not notice. The time you are engaged and planning the wedding goes by so fast and the wedding day is gone before you know it. Savor every moment together along the way.

Just 45 minutes outside NYC you have Beckwith Point. A beautiful location for any event located on Long Island Sound. The beach is adjacent to the main ballroom and cocktail area. It’s a wonderful spot if you want incredible panoramas for your reception backdrop and photos. There is a huge rock in the center of the property that you can walk to for photos or just take in the view.

Looking for a unique &  affordable  location in Manhattan can be a task for some couples. The Alger House has become a favorite venue of mine to photograph.

The Alger House located in the West Village has amazing fun decor with vintage flair. Julius Caesar’s bust greets you after your walk up a long stairway until the entrance of the Alger house. You are greeted by white painted brick walls with lovely pieces of art work and unique stained glass and walls filled with tapestries.  Combining the look of a modern loft and artists space with mismatched artworks makes this venue work as a whole.

Upstairs there is a solarium used as the bridal suite which I often use with my clients for formals and a great place to stage the signing of the wedding license. Inside this room are mirrors, lovely couches and fireplace. The ceremony starts as the you watch the bridal party descend to the ground floor from the Solarium, seats are set up in a  typical ceremony fashion and the Bride has plenty of room walk down the aisle.  The ceremony area of the venue doubles as the reception area, as when the ceremony ends the room flips magically into a reception area. The cocktail hour takes place at the front of the venue, looks can be deceiving as there is plenty of room to walk around and mingle with guests.

You can bring in your caterer, however Alger house has their own on site catering. There is a front “foyer” style area which is a great place for the viewing of the cake, place cards and a sign in book.

This location is also a great example of using the environment you are in fully to photograph.  The East Village is a oasis for beautiful painted doors, gritty city streets and interesting parks.  Use this environment for its full capability to capture a unique and amazing wedding day.
